Anger, a normal human emotion, sometimes gets out of control and ends up having a negative impact on a person’s relationships, work, and well-being. Problematic anger can result from stress, ineffective communication, a low tolerance for frustration, or a myriad of other reasons. If you feel that your anger is out-of-control, you are not alone as recent reports show that problematic anger is a growing concern that affects many people.

Notwithstanding the devastating effects that problematic anger can have on one’s personal relationships and work success, it also has dire consequences on one’s psychological and physical health, causing serious health problems such as ulcers and heart disease. Without treatment, problematic anger can lead to loss of employment, marriage failure, poor child-parent relationships, depression, and long-lasting physical damage.

Fortunately, there is hope. Psychotherapy has proven to be highly effective in helping people learn to manage and gain control of their problematic anger. There are both short-term immediate strategies, as well as long-term goals and benefits that when put together can change the rest of your life.

It is time to admit that anger is a problem if it is:

  • Constantly on your mind for several weeks and is beginning to impede your enjoyment of life,
  • Caused by something that happened a long time ago,
  • Causing you to do vengeful things,
  • Making you act violently to others or to yourself,
  • Interfering with your ability to do your job,
  • Hurting your relationships with your family and friends.[Canadian Mental Health Association]

If you can admit to one or more of the above statements, it is time for you to deal with the way in which anger is affecting your life. We invite you to call Cirrus Psychology Services to book an assessment interview and find out if one of our Anger Management Groups is a good fit for you.
